Riverdale Preschoolers Take Learning to the Runway

Curiosity and creativity took center stage at Riverdale Elementary this week, where preschoolers turned the classroom into a runway for learning. Their end-of-unit fashion show was a joyful celebration of knowledge, confidence, and community.

“We have a unit on clothing, and our curriculum encourages us to have a celebration at the end of each unit,” said preschool teacher Mary Margaret Clarke. “We’ve been learning all about different uniforms, what we wear in different seasons and weather, and how our clothing helps us every day. The fashion show let them put all that learning to good use.”

Mrs. Clarke’s students strutted down a red carpet to cheerful music, modeling their favorite costumes or fancy clothes in the spirit of Halloween! “They had a little red carpet to walk on, they had music - it was great,” Clarke said with a smile. “They were so proud of what they learned.”

The event was a collaboration between Mrs. Clarke and Ms. Anne Chaney, who joined the Riverdale preschool team after teaching at HHS. Together, they created an experience that turned a classroom lesson into an unforgettable moment of expression and joy.
For Mrs. Clarke, this year’s show was extra special as it was her first time experiencing the event after missing it the previous two years. “Year three was the charm for me,” she said with a laugh.

What looks like just simple fun was actually a moment celebrating a curriculum goal! These students were able to demonstrate their skills in decision-making, self-expression, and communication. These pre-k teachers are empowering personal potential even with some of our youngest students!
